You may apply to participate in business@school if you are a teacher (at a school in Austria, Germany, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, or Singapore) who would like to act as a project leader. Only schools applying to take part in business@school for the first time may apply here. Schools that are already participating should please fill out the
application form for current participants.
Please note that this is an application for acceptance to the project, not a project registration form. The schools accepted to the project will be notified in April. Only then has final approval of participation in business@school been granted.
Eligibility requirements
Project for high schools and secondary schools
Senior high schools and secondary schools with students aged 15 to 19 are eligible to participate.
Online application by teachers by 1 march
Online applications may be submitted by teachers at senior high schools or secondary schools with students aged 15 to 19. The deadline is March 1 every year for schools in Austria, Germany, Italy, and Switzerland and December 1 every year for schools in Singapore. Schools selected for participation are notified by the end of March to allow sufficient preparation time. The first regional preparatory workshops for participating teachers take place in May and June. Participants are informed well in advance.
Enthusiastic and open teachers
Teachers do not need to have any business education or training for business@school. What's important is that they are enthusiastic about the project, interested in business topics, and open to project work.
Volunteers from the business world help with project work, but business@school also requires more work from you as a teacher.
Flexibility needed in working with volunteers from business
Working with volunteers from participating companies requires a certain amount of flexibility on the part of schools. For example, meetings or joint appointments with company coaches must often be scheduled in the early evenings or on Fridays.
Project leader teachers supported by colleagues
One teacher per school functions as project leader and serves as a liaison between the school, the outside coaches, and the business@school office. Other teachers support the project leader by acting as group facilitators: guiding teams of students through the project phases, serving as contacts for any questions that come up, motivating students to work independently, and assessing student work with fair and open dialogue. The project leader may also serve as a group facilitator.
Weekly meetings
Participating students and teachers meet at least once per week to plan project work and discuss open issues. The project can be conducted during class time or after school. However, participating students and project leader teachers must meet at least once a week.
Internet access for all participants
The business@school work platform is the ProjectCommunity Internet site. Therefore, Internet access is a prerequisite for all teachers and students who wish to participate.
Minimum 15 and maximum 30 motivated and enthusiastic students
When applying, please be aware that at least 15 motivated and enthusiastic students—in teams of five to seven—are a prerequisite for participation in business@school. Schools that do not have the required number of students at the beginning of the project will be disqualified. In selecting students for participation, please keep in mind that business@school will require an individual commitment of at least two hours per week.
Please note: individual students may participate in the project only once. Interested students may participate in another project year as student coaches.
Cooperation with other schools is possible
If you are not able to mobilize 20 students at your school, you may apply jointly with another nearby school. We have had very positive experiences with this model in recent years. These schools participate jointly in events and presentations during the individual phases.
Good luck!
